Stupa painting

Khenpo Samten

29 June - 4 July 2025

We are thrilled to announce that Khenpo Samten Tsukphud has graciously agreed to share his expertise in creating stūpa paintings. He will guide participants through a comprehensive, step-by-step process, covering the drawing, painting techniques, and the profound spiritual and symbolic meanings of the stūpa.

Essential Presentation of the Stūpa

The stūpa is a powerful representation of the Buddha's primordial wisdom. It encapsulates both the wisdom that perceives reality as it truly is and the wisdom that comprehends its infinite scope. As visual and symbolic support for awakened qualities, it serves as a constant reminder of the Buddha’s virtues.

Every structural element of a stūpa—its proportions and forms—symbolizes specific qualities of the Buddha and bodhisattvas. Sacred texts describe stūpas as vessels of the Buddha’s compassionate power, offering blessings to those who honor them. They are considered supports for purification and merit accumulation.

Practices associated with stūpas include prostrations, circumambulations, offerings, ritual cleanings, and the application of sacred oils or essences. These acts are believed to purify obscurations and accumulate merit.

The benefits of these practices are far-reaching: they bring beneficial rains, abundant vegetation, prosperous harvests, improved health for beings, and harmony for animals. Thus, offerings to stūpas are seen as sources of prosperity and well-being.

In this workshop, participants will delve into the detailed study of stūpas' nature and aspects. This exploration aims to inspire those with faith and aspiration to grasp their profound significance.
