Drubdra Khenpo Tsultrim Tenzin Rinpoche

Drubdra Khenpo Tsultrim Tenzin Rinpoche is in charge of the meditation school at Triten Norbutse Monastery where he imparts Dzogchen teachings in a very experiential way. Drubdra Khenpo Rinpoche has been coming to the West since 2012, usually in the winter, and leads a retreat at the end of the year at Shenten. In recent years, he has been introducing western students to the practice of the inner heat (Tummo) as a supportive method in Dzogchen. Westerners like to be in his presence, enjoy his spontaneous, charming laughter, and the carefree conduct of a yogi.

Drubdra (meditation) Khenpo Tsultrim Tenzin Rinpoche was born in Kham in East Tibet.

 

Following his grandfather’s request, he become a monk at the age of thirteen. At the age of fourteen he had completed the traditional preliminary practices of the esoteric Bön doctrines, known as « Ngöndro Bumgu » according to the Drenpa Yabse cycle.

He stayed in Lungkar Gonpa and studied the Bön philosophy and received the transmission of Kalung Gamtso from Lama Lungkar Gelong there and served as ritual chant master for three years. After that, he went to Menri Monastery in Central Tibet and studied with Lama Kalzang Nyima. He received from him teachings on Monastic Discipline (Dulwa), Denod Dzod (Tantra Treasure authored by Shardza Tashi Gyaltsen Rinpoche) and A Thrid (Bön Dzogchen Meditation manual). Thanks to Lama Kalzang Nyima and his instructions on A Thrid, he received the experiential understanding of the Great Perfection (Dzogpa Chenpo).

 

Longing for deeper understanding of the Nine Ways of Bön, he went to Triten Norbutse Monastery in Kathmandu, Nepal to study under the guidance of his root Lama Yongdzin Rinpoche. He studied extensively Sutra, Tantra and Dzogchen there.

He has served for three years as chant master, and another three years as monastery disciplinarian at Triten Norbutse Monastery.

 

In 2001, after completing the 12-year studies, he was awarded a Geshe degree. In 2002 he was appointed by Yongdzin Rinpoche, as the Abbot of Meditation School at Triten Norbutse Monastery.

He has received three times the complete Zhang Zhung Nyengyud transmission including initiations from Yongdzin Rinpoche. He has received all Bön initiations (wang) from Yongdzin Rinpoche and from H.H. the Menri Trizin. He has received the teachings of MaGyud Gyud Sum – Base, Path and Result, and its wang from Yongdzin Rinpoche. As for Phagyud, he has received and studied the Throwo Gyud Drug (View, Meditation, Conduct, Samaya, Thrinle, Siddhi – Result of the Bön Father Tantra).

In recent years Drubdra Khenpo has been teaching also in Shenten Dargye Ling and various European countries the practice of Tummo.
