2022-An offering ritual to the Nagas
Geshe Samten Tsukphud
19 – 20 March 2022
Greetings from Shenten Dargye Ling.
This spring brings special occasions for rituals and practices for external and internal purification. Geshe Samten Tsukphud, one of the residential lamas at Shenten Dargye Ling, offers teaching on a particular practice dedicated to the Naga beings.
Geshe Samten Tsukphud will teach the Naga ritual called Luchod Womai Gyatso (ཀླུ་མཆོད་འོ་མའི་རྒྱ་མཚོ།; Wylie: klu mchod 'o ma'i rgya mtsho), the "Ocean of Milk Naga Ritual". The ritual texts were written by the 22nd Menri Trizin Kudun Sonam Lodroe.
Nagas are serpent spirits and seen as mundane spirits in Buddhism and Hinduism. "Naga" is the Sanskrit term, while "Lu" is the Tibetan equivalent. This ritual has been very popular in Yungdrung Bön communities. It is practiced to call the rain, liberate Naga diseases, accumulate benefits to Nagas, and increase power, longevity, and wealth held by Nagas. Ultimately, these rituals benefit all sentient beings.
The teaching includes explanations on the performance and intention and the practice of the mantras and prayers of this ritual.
