Tenshug for Yongdzin Lopön Tenzin Namdak Rinpoche

From January 22d to January 30th, 2020, the Triten Norbutse Monastery in Nepal will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Yungdrung Bön Academy of Higher Studies, called Shedra. On this auspicious occasion, the Monastery will hold many important events. One of them is a Tenshug, a Mandala offering for the Long-life for our most senior teacher and lineage holder, His Eminence Yongdzin Lopön Tenzin Namdak Rinpoche.

Since so many Western disciples feel a heart connection with Yongdzin Rinpoche, we would like to offer a Tenshug in conjunction with the ceremony at the Monastery.

At this occasion, we would like to invite all the Bönpo sisters and brothers around the world to contribute to the Mandala offering for the Long-life for Yongdzin Rinpoche, as a way to show our aspiration and devotion, and express our heartfelt wish for him to stay with us at least for hundred years.

The Tenshug ceremony will take place at the Triten Norbutse Monastery, in Kathmandu, on January 27th, 2020. This date is also special since Yongdzin Rinpoche will celebrate his 95th Birthday in January.

On this auspicious occasion, the Monastery decided to perform a Long-Life offering. His Western seat, Shenten Dargye Ling (France), would like to call all the worldwide Western bönpo sangha to participate through a joint effort and perform one Long-life offering to Him at the same time.

In one way, all of us connect to Him. Through his kindness and ceaseless effort to spread the Yungdrung Bön, we have the precious opportunity to learn the Buddha’s teaching and enter to the Path of Liberation. So this Tenshug would be a great opportunity for all of us to express our gratitude and care to Him.

We invite all of you to contribute to the Tenshug offering expenses by donating any amount, through bank transfer, PayPal or French check. We also invite you to participate to the whole program January 22-30, 2020, in Kathmandu.

If you cannot be present in person, you can connect through your prayers to receive the blessings and merits associated with this occasion.

Please note that you can donate individually or together with your local sangha.

About the Tenshug

Tenshug (brtan bzhugs) literally means "to stay firmly" or "stay everlasting". This is a ritual performed for an important master in order to create the conditions and merits to extend his lifespan. This is also an occasion for the students to express their devotion towards their master who keeps the Buddha’s teaching and spread it untiringly, and to fulfill all his wishes. During a Tenshug, along the prayers, we traditionally offer special objects, such as a Mandala offering plate, a statue, holy scriptures, a stupa, a full set of new monk robe, a cushion for the lama, chakshing, the eight auspicious symbols, the seven precious royal emblems, the five offerings, namgye, torma, rakta, and medicine. Before the offering of the items, a puja that lasts several days is performed.

In order to perform the Tengshug ceremony, we need to order offering items of high quality. That’s why we are calling for your support and participation through a generous donation to contribute to the expenses of the ritual. In addition, we encourage you to accumulate the Long-Life Mantra for the health of Yongdzin Rinpoche until the ceremony.

Note that this time, we will perform the Mandala offering for Long-life of Mawé Senge.
