Gomdra - Meditation School with Khenpo Gelek

Dear Sangha members,

Warm greetings from the Triten Norbutse Monastery, Kathmandu, Nepal!

I would like to wish you Happy Tibetan Losar and that the Earth-Pig year brings abundance of love, joy and wisdom in your life and on the earth.

With this prayer, as Khenpo Gelek asked me, I would like to write to you about the 3rd Gomdra program to be held at Shenten this year.

The 3rd Gomdra program:

In order to create an opportunity for our Sangha members to take part in the traditional Gomdra program to deepen their practice, two major events entitled as Gomdra has been organized so far. The first Gomdra program took place from 2009 to 2012 following the teaching and practice according to the Atri Cycle; and the second one from 2014 to 2017 following the teaching and practice according to the Practice Manual of Dru Gyalwa Yungdrung on Oral Transmission of Zhangzhung.

The full duration of Gomdra is 4 years and in each year there are 70 days of intensive practice on-site.

The first two Gomdra programs were successfully completed and the participants found that it indeed familiarized and deepened their practice in a great way. Numerous people are inspired to participate the Gomdra program and therefore we are happy to announce that this year we are starting the 3rd Gomdra program.

Duration of the 3rd Gomdra:

The program will last for four years and each year the participants will do 70 days of intensive practice. Each year starts in the first week of September. This year, 2019 the Gomdra will start on the 5th of Sept. and will complete on the 12th of Nov. 2019.

Teaching topic:

The 3rd Gomdra will be on the teachings and practice according to the Dzogchen Yangtse Longchen Cycle. The Dzogchen Yangtse Longchen is an extensive commentary on Dzogchen Dragpa Korsum Cycle (The Great Perfection, Cycle of Three Proclamations) by Nyachen Lishu Tagring. This text was rediscovered as a treasure by Zhodton Ngoedub Dakpa in 1088 from the Khomthing temple in southern Tibet. The Yangtse Longchen text is mainly classified into two parts: Drangdon, the teaching on conventional meaning and Ngedon, the instruction on absolute meaning. While the first is referred to common preliminary practices, the second is referred to the main teaching on the Great Perfection. So, this first year the participants will be guided through the preliminary practices followed by the Six Lokas purification practice; and the Semdzin, the fixation of mind, and the Semtsol, the searching of mind; and finally, will be concluded with the introduction of The Nature of Mind.

Khenpo Gelek Jinpa will be the teacher of the Gomdra. Residing at Shenten. Khenpo Gelek is the Superior of the Congregation and a great teacher. Graduated as Geshe in 2001 at Triten Norbutse Monastery, he has co-authored and authored several books, featured in documentaries and has been teaching internationally. His joyful presence and encouraging teaching style brings students inspiring understanding and experience in their practice.

Discipline of the Gomdra:

The subscribers of the Gomdra program are encouraged and expected to be committed to undergo the complete training for four years. All the participants shall commit to stay within the retreat premises marked with protective boundary all the time for 70 days. All kind of communication to outside world including phone calls, email and so on are restricted except on the weekly off-days. Each member of the group is expected to participate every collective gathering including teaching, prayers and all meditation sessions.

Health and medical release:

Participants are expected generally to be in good health physically and mentally. However, everyone is requested to bring his/her necessary medicine, supplements, clothes, and fill in and sign a medical release form.

More details about the health and logistics will be available by contacting the organizer.

We welcome every practitioner, who feels genuinely inspired by the program and ready to abide the conditions and commitments, to submit his/her application before April, 21st, 2019.
